Before you begin
- The terminal is online for the first share. After that, cash shares can be taken offline.
Start a split
On the terminal
- With items on the ticket, tap Split this bill under the ticket. You can also tap Split this ticket on the Amount due screen.
- The top shows Still to pay. Choose Evenly, By item or Amount.
Split evenly or by item
On the terminal
- Under How many people, tap the number of people paying, from 2 to 10.
- For By item, tap a person's number beside each line. Lines left on Shared are divided among everyone.
- Check What each pays.
- Tap Take beside the next person. The button shows their amount.
- Take that share by card or cash, as usual.
- Back on the split screen, the share shows Paid. Repeat for each person until the screen says Every share has been taken.
Split by amount
On the terminal
- Tap Amount.
- Type the amount under How much on this payment.
- Tap Take and take that amount by card or cash.
- The rest stays on the ticket. Take it the same way, or any other way the customer likes.
The first payment on a split needs a connection. If the terminal is offline, it shows "No connection. The first payment on a split bill needs one — nothing was taken." Hand the cash back, or take the whole ticket in cash.
With tips on, each card share gets its own tip question.
If you don't see Split this bill, splitting is off for your location. Ask us to turn it on.
Splitting is part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium. Restaurants on Surge Premium that use seats also get By seat.
When a payment leaves money owed, the terminal shows Part paid and what's Still owed. Tap Take the rest to carry on, or Later to come back to it. Print receipt gives the person who just paid a receipt for their share.
