Ring up a sale

Add items or a keyed amount to the ticket, pick sizes and add-ons, set quantities and add notes.

Who is this guide for?Anyone signed in to the terminal.

About the sell screen

The sell screen is Home in the bar at the bottom. The row at the top has Quick Sale and Items, plus Tabs and Orders if your shop uses them.

Quick Sale is a keypad for things that aren't in your item list. Items shows your items by category. Items, Tabs and Orders are part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium. On Surge Free you sell with Quick Sale. If your shop doesn't allow keyed amounts, you only see the items.

Add a keyed amount with Quick Sale

On the terminal
  1. Tap Quick Sale.
  2. Type the amount. Digits fill from the right, like a cash register: typing 1, 2, 5 gives $1.25.
  3. Optional: tap + Note (optional) and type what it is, for example "Repair". This is what the receipt shows for the line.
  4. Tap Add to Charge. The amount goes on the ticket and the keypad clears.

Add items

On the terminal
  1. Tap Items. Tap a category, or All, to see its items.
  2. To find an item fast, tap Search or scan and type part of its name. If your shop uses barcodes, scan the item instead.
  3. Tap the item. Each size of an item has its own tile, so tap the size you want. An item with no add-ons goes straight onto the ticket.
  4. If the item has add-ons, a sheet opens with each list. Lists marked Choose one need an answer; lists marked Optional don't.
  5. Use − and + on the sheet to set how many, and add a note if needed.
  6. Tap Add. The button shows the price, for example Add · $6.00.
  7. For an item sold by weight, tap Next · weigh it and type the reading from your scale. The terminal doesn't read the scale for you.

Change the ticket

On the terminal
  1. Tap − or + on a line to change the quantity.
  2. Tap × on a line to remove it.
  3. Tap Note on a line, type the note (for example "no ice" or "allergy: peanuts") and tap Save note. The note prints on the receipt and the kitchen ticket.
  4. To start over, tap Clear, then Clear ticket. Keep ticket backs out and leaves the ticket as it was.
  5. When the ticket is right, tap Charge. The button shows the total.

Key an amount from an empty ticket

Where Quick Sale is on, an empty ticket also offers Custom amount.

On the terminal
  1. With nothing on the ticket, tap Custom amount.
  2. Type the amount, and what it is if you like.
  3. Tap Add to ticket.
An item marked Sold out can't be added. A line that says Remove it to charge this sale is an item that was taken off your item list. Remove it with × to continue.
If you don't see Quick Sale, barcode scanning or weighed items, the feature is off for your location. Ask us to turn it on. Barcode scanning and items sold by weight are part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium.
On a handheld terminal the ticket is its own screen. Tap ‹ Items to go back to your items.
To keep a ticket open and come back to it later, park it under Tabs. Open tabs are part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium. See "Run open tabs".
