Orders to pick up and call numbers

Track each order from New to Picked up, call it by number or name, and pick up open tickets again.

Who is this guide for?Admins switch these on in the back office. Anyone signed in to the terminal works the Orders screen.

Switch them on

The Orders screen and call numbers are part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium. On Surge Free each switch shows Needs Surge Plus. Cafés, bars and restaurants have Orders to pick up on from the start.

On the back office
  1. Go to Store setup > Features.
  2. Under How service runs, turn on Orders to pick up for the Orders screen on the terminal, and Call numbers for a short number per order that starts again each day.
  3. Click Save changes.

Work the Orders screen

Orders move through New, In progress, Ready and Just picked up. Picked-up orders stay for 15 minutes so a wrong tap can be undone.

The screen opens straight away with the orders the terminal already has, and refreshes every 10 seconds. Tap Refresh to check now, and ‹ Ticket to go back. An unpaid ticket sent to the kitchen also shows here, marked Unpaid, with no total.

On the terminal
  1. Tap Orders. It shows a count when something is waiting, such as Orders · 3.
  2. Each card shows the call name or number, how long the customer has waited, and the items.
  3. Tap the big button to move the order on: Start on a new order, Ready when it's in progress, Picked up when it's handed over.
  4. To skip straight to ready from New, tap Ready. Tap Undo to step back one column.

When an order is ready

Marking an order Ready shows a banner on every terminal at the location, with a chime, such as "Order 42 · Maria is ready". Tap Orders on the banner to open the Orders screen, or tap the banner to close it. It closes by itself after 30 seconds.

If you send order-ready texts, the card says whether the text went, such as Texted or Text failed · call the name.

Continue an order

Continue order, at the top of the Orders screen, lists open tickets that aren't on a table, such as a kiosk order paid at the counter.

On the terminal
  1. Tap Continue order.
  2. Tap Continue on a ticket to put it back on the terminal.
  3. Add to it or charge it.

Call numbers and names

With Call numbers on, each order gets a number such as "Order 42". It starts again at 1 each business day, at 4 AM. The terminal can also ask for a first name, so the call reads "Order 42 · Maria".

On the back office
  1. Go to Store setup > Features.
  2. Find the Name on the order card. It appears once Call numbers is saved on.
  3. Choose Don't ask (call by number only), Ask, with a Skip (the terminal asks Name for the order? at Charge, and the customer can tap Skip) or Always ask (Charge doesn't go on until a name is typed).
  4. Click Save.
The name and number print on the receipt and show on the Orders screen. Only an Admin can change Name on the order.
