Set up the ordering kiosk

Let customers order and pay by themselves, from the same items as your terminals.

Who is this guide for?Admins in the back office.

Before you begin

  • Pair each kiosk on the Devices tab, like a terminal. See "Pair a new terminal".

What customers see

Customers can switch the kiosk between English and Español with Language.

  • The start screen shows your film or your logo, and Start my order.
  • If you offer more than one choice, they're asked Where will you eat?: Dine in or To go.
  • They browse the menu by section and add items with Add to order.
  • They check the order under Your order. If you turned on suggestions, they see Add something else? before paying.
  • They give a name for the order and a phone number or email.
  • If your shop takes tips, they may be asked Add a tip?.
  • They pay on the card reader, or at the counter when that's offered.
  • The last screen shows Your order number, or Your order is in.

What the kiosk leaves off the menu

The kiosk sells the same items as your terminals, except:

  • Gift cards
  • Services
  • Items sold by weight
  • Age-restricted items

Turn an item off for a while

Mark it sold out. The kiosk and the terminals both stop selling it, and the kiosk shows it as Sold out.

  1. Go to Store setup > Items and open the item.
  2. On the Sold out card, click Sold out today or Until put back.
  3. Click Back on sale to sell it again.

The kiosk's own settings

Go to Store setup > Kiosk.

  • Screen: Portrait (upright) or Landscape (sideways) for the location, and for each kiosk under Each kiosk.
  • Start-screen film: Upload a film, Replace film or Remove. Use an MP4 of about 20 seconds; it plays without sound.
  • Logo: the same logo as your receipts. Change it on the Receipt tab.
  • Suggestions before checkout: switch on Suggest items before checkout, then tick up to 12 items to suggest.
  • Customer display: a short film that loops without sound on the screen facing the customer at a counter terminal, such as the second screen on a T3, until a sale starts. It plays the kiosk's start-screen film unless you click Upload a customer display film to use a different one. With no film, or if the film can't play, the screen shows your logo.
"Today" sold-out items come back by themselves when the business day ends. Sold-out flags are part of inventory, on Surge Plus and Surge Premium.
Kiosks pick up changes within a couple of minutes. A new kiosk is listed under Each kiosk within a minute of being switched on. Only an Admin can change kiosk settings.
