Before you begin
- Text messages are part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium. On Surge Free the tab isn't shown.
- Texts come from a Surge number, not your shop's. Every text says your shop's name.
Switch on order-ready texts
One text goes out when an order is marked ready on the terminal's Orders screen. It goes to the number the customer gave with that order. No number, no text. The page shows each text as a customer would get it.
- Go to Store setup > Text messages.
- Switch on Text when an order is ready.
- To change the wording, edit Message. Leave it empty to use the wording shown.
- Click Save.
Switch on receipt texts
Wherever the terminal or kiosk offers an emailed receipt, it then also offers a text. The text links to the receipt, and its wording is fixed.
- Go to Store setup > Text messages.
- Switch on Text receipts.
Rules every text follows
- Only to a customer who gave their number for that order or receipt. The terminal and kiosk tell them first that the number will be texted.
- No promotions. Not for news, offers or reminders.
- Quiet hours. No texts between 9pm and 8am your time, unless the order or receipt was in the last two hours.
- What a text says. Your shop's name, the order number, and the first name if you use names. Nothing about what was bought.
- Daily limit. Set by Surge. The page shows how many are used today.
- A long text counts as more than one message. The page tells you if your wording does.
When a customer replies STOP
A customer who replies STOP isn't texted again by your shop, including receipts. If they reply START, texts to them turn back on. The first text to each number says how to stop them.
The page shows how many numbers have replied STOP. Texts not sent for this reason are listed as "Not sent: that number has asked not to be texted".
Check texts that didn't arrive
On the same page, Texts that did not arrive, last 30 days shows When, Text, Order and What happened.
