Run open tabs

Park a ticket under a name, add rounds to it and close it when the guest pays.

Who is this guide for?Anyone signed in to the terminal.

Before you begin

  • Open tabs is on under Store setup > Features. It's on from the start for bars and restaurants. Only an Admin can change Features.
  • Open tabs are part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium. On Surge Free the switch shows Needs Surge Plus.
  • Every terminal at the location shares the same list of tabs.
  • If Tables is also on, the button says Tables and opens the floor plan instead. See "Put orders on tables".

Open a tab

The terminal clears for the next customer. The Tabs button shows how many tabs are open, for example Tabs · 3.

If you have kitchen printers, parking sends any food on the ticket to the kitchen straight away.

On the terminal
  1. Ring up the first round.
  2. Tap Tabs on the ticket.
  3. Tap Park this ticket.
  4. Type a name anyone can recognise, such as "Red jacket" or "Sam at the end".
  5. Tap Park it.

Add to a tab

While a tab is open on one terminal, it's off the list. Nobody else can pick it up until it's parked again or closed.

On the terminal
  1. Tap Tabs.
  2. Find the name in the list and tap Resume.
  3. Add the new drinks.
  4. Tap Tabs, then Park this ticket. The tab goes back on the list under the same name.

Close a tab

On the terminal
  1. Tap Tabs.
  2. Tap Resume next to the guest's name.
  3. Tap Charge and take payment as usual. Tips and split payments work as on any sale.

Read the list

Each row shows the tab's name, when it was last parked (such as "20 minutes ago" or "yesterday") and who parked it.

Throw a tab away

Tap × next to the name. The tab is deleted and the kitchen is told to void anything it was sent.

At close of day

  • Tabs don't close on their own and don't expire. A tab left open tonight is still on the list tomorrow, marked "yesterday".
  • An open tab doesn't stop you closing the drawer, and it isn't counted in the day's sales until it's paid.
  • Before you close the drawer, tap Tabs and close or throw away every tab that shouldn't carry over.
There's no "Are you sure?" when you tap ×. Check the name before you tap.
The tab list needs a connection. Offline, the screen says "Cannot reach the tab list from here". That doesn't mean there are no tabs, so wait for the connection before opening a second tab for the same guest.
