Run the host stand

Read the floor, seat parties with a server, join tables, assign sections and follow the server rotation.

Who is this guide for?Hosts, servers and managers on the terminal. Table service settings need an Admin in the back office.

Before you begin

  • Tables is switched on. See "Set up tables and your floor plan".
  • Tables is part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium.

Read the floor

The host stand is the Tables screen on the terminal. Each table shows one of these:

  • Free or Free · seats 4: ready to seat.
  • Needs cleaning: the party paid and left. Clear it before seating.
  • Blocked: kept empty on purpose.
  • Held · Name: held for a party on the waitlist.
  • A timer, such as 0:38: seated, and for how long.

What a seated table shows

A seated table also shows its server, the amount rung so far and the guest count. A 🍴 means the kitchen has the order. ★ marks a VIP, 🔁 a guest who has been before, and 📝 a note.

The timer turns amber, then red. The defaults are 60 and 90 minutes.

Change a table's state

A table turns Needs cleaning by itself when its ticket is paid. Block and Unblock need a manager code, and show Undo for 30 seconds.

Seating at a table that needs cleaning asks first. Tap Seat anyway or Leave it.

On the terminal
  1. Tap a table that needs cleaning, or press and hold any free table.
  2. Choose Mark clean, Mark dirty, Block or Unblock.

Seat a party with a server

The terminal offers the table's assigned server first. With none, it offers the next server in the rotation, then you.

On the terminal
  1. Ring up the order, or pick a party on the waitlist.
  2. Tap Tables, then a free table.
  3. The terminal asks, for example, Seat 12 with Maria?. Tap Seat with Maria.
  4. To pick someone else, tap Swap server and choose a name.
  5. On the same sheet, tap VIP to mark the party, or type a Note, such as "birthday" or "window".

Seat one party across tables

Up to 8 tables can be joined. Each tile then shows the others, such as +T2.

On the terminal
  1. Ring up the order, then tap Tables.
  2. Tap Select tables.
  3. Tap each free table to push together. Tap one again to drop it.
  4. Tap Seat 2 tables together.

Assign servers their tables

Anyone with a till code can be given tables. Each server gets a colour on the floor. A server taps My tables to dim everyone else's tables, and All tables to see the whole floor again.

On the terminal
  1. Tap Assign servers and enter a manager code.
  2. Tap a server's name, then tap their tables. To give a whole room, tap Give Maria this whole room.
  3. Tap Done.

Choose who can open another server's table

On the back office
  1. Go to Store setup > Tables > Table service.
  2. Under Another server's table, choose Anyone can open any table, Ask first or Only their server.
  3. Set Amber after (minutes) and Red after (minutes) for the table timers.
  4. Click Save.
  • Anyone can open any table: the table shows whose it is, nothing more.
  • Ask first: the terminal asks "This is Maria's table — open it anyway?"
  • Only their server: only that server or a manager can open it.

Follow the server rotation

Once someone has been given tables or has sat a table that day, a strip across the top of the floor shows who to seat next. The first chip says Name · Next. Each chip shows when the server last sat a table, and their covers or tables.

Tap Sort: Last sat to cycle through Last sat, Covers now, Covers tonight, Tables now and Tables tonight. Each terminal keeps its own sort.

For a double shift, tap the server's chip, then + Shift. Their counts start again from now. This needs a manager code.

A manager code is the till code of a Shift lead, Manager or Owner. Only an Admin can change Table service in the back office.
