Who is this guide for?Staff signed in on the terminal. The Shift lead role is the one meant for drawer work.
Before you begin
- The cash drawer feature is on for your location. If Drawer is missing from Settings, it's off.
- The terminal has a built-in receipt printer. The drawer opens through it.
Open the drawer
On the terminal
- Tap Settings, then Drawer. You can also tap No drawer open — open one on the sell screen.
- The terminal shows Open the drawer. Count the notes and coins you are starting with, and type the total.
- Tap Open drawer.
Record money in or out
Record any cash that goes in or out for a reason other than a sale. A reason is required for paid in and paid out.
On the terminal
- Tap Settings > Drawer. You see Shift so far.
- Tap Paid in, Paid out or Drop to safe.
- Type the amount and tap Continue.
- Under What was it for?, tap a suggestion such as Supplier or Petty cash, or type a reason.
- Tap Record.
- No sale opens the drawer without moving money. Each one is counted on the shift.
Close the drawer
The close is blind: you count first, and only then see what was expected. That keeps the count honest.
On the terminal
- Tap Settings > Drawer, then Close drawer.
- The terminal shows Count the drawer. Count the cash in it.
- Type what is actually there and tap Close drawer.
- Read Shift closed. It shows Counted, Expected in drawer, and Balanced, Over or Short.
If the drawer won't close
- A message such as 1 sale is still open on this register means a ticket is unfinished. Charge it or delete it, then close.
- This drawer has not synced yet means the drawer was opened offline. The difference is worked out once the terminal reconnects.
Cash sales need an open drawer. If none is open when you take cash, the terminal asks you to open one first.
Drawer counts and over/short figures are shown only on the terminal. There's no drawer or shift report in the back office yet. Email info@surgeups.com.
