Take appointments

Book customers in with a team member, set working hours and days off, and ring bookings up at the terminal.

Who is this guide for?Admins and Finance book and set hours in the back office; Viewers can only look. Anyone signed in to the terminal can use Today.

Switch it on

Two tabs appear under Store setup: Appointments and Hours. The terminal gets a Today button. The Appointments switch is on every plan, and barber shops and salons start with it on. The services you book are items, and the item menu is part of Surge Plus and Surge Premium.

On the back office
  1. Go to Store setup > Features.
  2. Under How service runs, turn on Appointments.
  3. Click Save changes.

Set working hours

Once a week is filled in, the book refuses bookings outside those hours. A booking must finish within their hours, not just start within them. Each day has one stretch of time; to block out lunch, add it to the book as a booking.

On the back office
  1. Go to Store setup > Hours.
  2. On Working hours, pick the team member at the top.
  3. For each day they work, click Set. It fills in 9 to 5.
  4. Change the From and To times as needed.
  5. To mark a day Not working, click Clear.

Book a day off

To undo it, click Remove beside the date.

On the back office
  1. On the Hours tab, go to Days off.
  2. Pick the Date, and add a reason under Why if you like, such as "Holiday".
  3. Click the Book … off button, for example Book Maria off.

Take a booking

Surge refuses a booking that overlaps another for the same person, or that falls outside their hours or on their day off. To cancel, click Cancel on the booking's row.

On the back office
  1. Go to Store setup > Appointments.
  2. On The book, pick the day with the date box.
  3. On Take a booking, fill in Who (a name, or the number they rang from), Service, With (the team member) and At (the time).
  4. Click Book it.

Ring up a booking

On the terminal
  1. On the sell screen, tap Today. Today's bookings are listed in time order, with the service and team member.
  2. When the customer arrives, tap Here.
  3. Tap Ring up to put the service on the ticket.
  4. Take payment as usual. The booking is marked done once the sale is paid.
  5. Tap ‹ Ticket to go back to the sale.
Ring up doesn't attach the customer. Tap Add Customer if they should earn points.
Bookings are made in the back office. The terminal shows today only and can't take, move or cancel a booking.
If the Appointments tab says "Nothing to book yet", you don't have a bookable service set up. We can help. Email info@surgeups.com.
