Who is this guide for?Anyone signed in to the terminal. Discounts marked Manager need a manager code.
Before you begin
- Your shop has discount presets. They are set in Settings > Discount presets.
Discount the whole sale
On the terminal
- Tap Add a discount under the ticket. The screen says Discount the sale.
- Tap a discount. Each one shows how much it takes off, for example −$1.00.
- If the discount shows Enter amount, type how much to take off and tap Continue.
- If the discount is marked Manager, a manager enters their code on Manager approval.
- The ticket now shows the discount's name and the new total.
Discount one item
On the terminal
- Tap Discount on the line. The screen says Discount this item.
- Tap a discount, and enter an amount or a manager code if asked.
- The line now shows the discount's name instead of Discount.
Remove a discount
On the terminal
- Tap the discount's name on the line or under the ticket.
- Tap Remove discount.
Set up discount presets
Cashiers pick from a list your shop sets up. There's no way to type a new price for one sale. You can add presets in the back office or on the terminal.
- Go to Store setup > Tax & discounts.
- Under Discounts, enter a Name, such as Staff discount.
- Choose a Kind: A percentage, A fixed amount, or Cashier enters the amount.
- Choose what it Applies to: The whole sale or One item.
- Tick Needs a manager code if a manager should approve it. A discount where the cashier enters the amount always needs one.
- Click Add discount.
- Tap Settings in the bottom bar, then Discount presets. Enter a manager code when asked.
- Tap Add a preset.
- Type a Name, then pick Amount or Percentage and type the value.
- Turn on Needs a manager if a manager should approve it.
- Tap Create. To stop offering a preset later, open it and tap Stop offering this. Past sales keep it.
Who is asked for a manager code
- On Surge Plus and Surge Premium, a discount marked Manager asks for a code from anyone who isn't allowed to give manager discounts. Managers and owners can, by default.
- On Surge Free, no manager code is asked for.
If the screen says No discounts are set up for this shop, add presets first in Settings > Discount presets.
To require a manager for a discount, turn on Needs a manager for that preset in Settings > Discount presets.
Changing an item's price changes it for every sale from then on. Do that on the item itself, not with a discount.
